Lighten up

I find myself in the midst of seriousness lately. Serious life issues. And seriously challenging life issues. A lot of my days recently have been stressful and not the good kind. I summed it up nicely the other day.

In the midst of a few vastly different seasons, producing opposite emotions in me, and I’m finding it difficult to live in the middle of the extremes.

You see, there are good things happening also. At the same time all the not so great stuff is happening. One second, I’m up. The next, all the way down. And it happens so fast. Managing my state has been very difficult.

Years ago when I needed to let loose, I used to put on loud music and danced away. It always helped me release energy, good and bad, and it also put a smile on my face. These days, I don’t feel much like dancing.

I’m on the search for some new ways to lighten up, and I don’t mean my hair color.

The other day I was driving to my chiropractic appointment and that Katy Perry song came on…the one about California. The most overplayed song of the summer. Immediately, I started making up new words to the song. Two seconds later, I was laughing histerically at myself. I laughed all the way to my appointment, with the commitment that I would record a new version of that song.

Here’s her lyrics for a part of the chorus: (can you hear it in your head?)

California girls
We’re unforgettable
Daisy Dukes
Bikinis on top
Sun-kissed skin
So hot
Will melt your popsicle
Oooooh Oh Oooooh

My version goes like this…it’s called North Dakota Girls

North Dakota girls
We’re insignificant
Long underwear
And parkas on top
Skin so chapped
and cold
it turns to icicles
Oooooh Oh Oooooh

It totally works if you can sing it in your head. LOL. Anyway, maybe it’s only funny to me. But it did make me laugh that day. And these days, I’ll take what I can get.

  2. Amy – You know…I’ve wanted to say so many things on this blog. Because it’s my blog right? I can write about whatever I want? Well then some voice in my head starts saying things about what people will think or say. And sometimes I write from that place….and I am not gonna do that anymore. I’m sure there will always be critics.

    on another note…
I celebrate our new friendship. And thanks for inspiring me by starting your blog.

  3. The thing of this is Rebecca, write your guts out! Because there are moms out there, all over the world that can relate with you, no matter what ANY ONE says.
If I can relate in Missouri, then surely there are others!

I can totally relate right now. Life has it’s hills, mountains sometimes. How do we go through them and not have bad days/weeks? Come from a place of satisfied? Sure, but how I stay there when I have an almost 13 year old going through 13 year old stuff, a 9 year old girl getting attitude :), a 4 year old testing boundaries and a 17 month old consistantly repeating Mommy, Mommy, Mommy….hahahahaa! I love my children, it just gets challenging. Then throw life in with it all.. GEESH! πŸ™‚

So totally support you in everything that I read on this blog!
I love you Rebecca! You Rock! Keep it up!
